Park rates 9 out of 10 - survey

Sports Park Hawke’s Bay rated 9 out of 10 in a survey conducted at the recent North Island Colgate Games.

The survey asked a range of questions including “On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the (Sports Park) venue?” The 194 respondents taking part in the survey gave an average 9.3 response.

“We’re extremely pleased with this result” said Sports Park CEO Jock Mackintosh. “The survey was undertaken on a cold, wet Sunday, the final day of the Games, but despite that people gave the place a very high rating.”

Sports Park Trust Chair Lawrence Yule said the Colgate Games and the New Zealand Secondary School Athletic Champs in December were important examples of the types of event the region could attract.

“The survey also asked visitors to the region how much they expected to spend and how long they would stay in the Bay. On average people stayed 5 nights spending $140 per day so that’s $1.5m that has been injected into the region from the Colgate Games alone,” says Mr Yule

The Games were organized by a committee largely made up of children’s athletics club members and chaired by Sharee Jones. Organisation of the event also rated highly at 8.6 out of 10.

“These events rely heavily on volunteers and we were well served with 140 volunteers here for the three days. We’re also really pleased with the feedback.  There had been some grumblings about traffic queues but only 6% of people listed this when asked about things we could do better next time,” says Ms Jones.
