Sports Park Hawke’s Bay is the most exciting development the region has ever seen. The 30 hectare site on the Hastings-Napier expressway already boasts a world-class athletics track and grandstand.
When asked to rate the venue at the 2011 Colgate Games spectators gave it a 9 out of ten. Olympic silver medallist Nick Willis says “the track is fast, really fast. Lots of records will be broken here.” And he is right - lots of records have tumbled already.
A lot has happened at the Park since it opened. The new 18 court Hastings Pak'n Save Netball Centre opened in June 2011. Seven new sports fields were completed in March 2012 are being used by Football and Touch. These facilities replace dated existing facilities and cater for growth in these sports.
For the next stage of its development the Park is adding changing facilities for the sports fields, some additional shelter for the Hastings Pak n Save Netball centre and an exciting new hockey facility to service the Hastings hockey community. Development depends on the Trust being successful with its fundraising but it is hoped construction will start at the end of 2012
